Pattern Cutting Award

Submission
The Pattern Cutting Award has been created to celebrate and showcase imaginative, experimental, and advanced technical skills. Through this award, the GFF recognises inventive problem-solving and innovative pattern-cutting skills when interpreting a designer’s personal vision in the realisation of contemporary design, encompassing sustainable approaches and new technologies.

Submissions can include:    
• Research-based experimentation using digital and/or traditional techniques to inspire the creative translation of ideas from 2D to 3D in the context of contemporary fashion
• Demonstration of complex 3D questioning approaches to creative pattern cutting, involving working on the stand, flat pattern cutting or the use of CAD techniques/technology to explore innovative concepts or processes to inspire silhouettes
• Experimental 3D problem solving, through creative thinking and advanced technical decisions: evidenced in sampling, informed fabric /material choices, manufacturing processes and finishes in the realisation of contemporary design.

Using one look from a student’s collection or a fully resolved professional toile, produce a detailed explanation within a progress book. Documenting creative problem solving, new innovative pattern cutting methods, creative thinking, advanced technical skills, sampling, informed fabric /material choices, manufacture processes and finishes in the realisation of contemporary design, demonstrating that it meets all the criteria as detailed above.
               
Criteria

• Students will not be judged upon the quality of the page images, but the qualitative content of their page.
                           
  A submission of no more than 10 x pages for the nomination shortlisting. The full project will be displayed for the final judging session. The nomination can be a maximum of 10MB, illustrating the final project and a supporting statement. Full digital submission only.
