Submission
Constructed textiles are foundational to fashion, from heritage craftsmanship to advanced technical fabrics. The Constructed Textile Award has been created to celebrate visionary constructed textile design within fashion. The award reflects a commitment to fresh, future-thinking material development, recognising that innovation in fashion begins at fibre and fabric level, celebrating work that pushes the boundaries of construction, fibre innovation and storytelling through cloth. This award honours designers and textile innovators who demonstrate exceptional creativity and are redefining construction through experimentation, technical mastery and material intelligence. It captures the spirit of forward-thinking fashion by placing constructed textiles at the centre of creative and environmental transformation. The winning submission must present a construction-led portfolio of developmental research that demonstrates a refreshing and innovative direction.

Boundary-pushing innovation in construction, material development or textile application
A comprehensive portfolio of developmental research
Technical documentation of textile structures and material processes
Positions constructed textiles as a driver of fashion innovation
Reflects contemporary relevance and future-thinking material solutions
Shows authenticity, clarity of concept and depth of exploration
Strong understanding of colour, material tactility and structural integrity
Clear integration between textile development and fashion application
Experimentation in construction, texture, and surface development
Innovative use of fabric technology
Forward-thinking material exploration that challenges traditional applications
The exploration of the creative textile process should include evidence of the following criteria:
The submission should include a supporting statement to explain the nominated student’s entry detailing the background and
concept of work.
An initial digital submission of no more than 15 x pages for the nomination shortlisting. The full physical body of work will be
displayed for the final judging session.
The nomination can be a maximum of 10mb in one continuous PDF, illustrating the final project and a supporting statement
Process
The Constructed Textile award will be judged in two stages. All nominated students will have to submit a supporting statement for scrutiny at the pre-event shortlisting by industry experts.
Part One
Deadline: Monday 18th May 2026, 18:00.
Deadline for submission, academic staff are to nominate 2 final year students
Selection
An industry expert will shortlist 12 students from the entries submitted.
Shortlist Announcement: Thursday 28th May 2026
Part Two
Awards judging will be onsite at Graduate Fashion Week at the Truman Brewery. Shortlisted students must bring their full entry for the final judging. This can be physical work plus digital elements if required. The judging will be an opportunity to talk through the students work, ideas and answer questions from the judges.
All nominated students must attend the full judging day during GFW and ensure they attend all talks, meetings and judging sessions as well as the end of day Awards Presentation and celebratory networking event. Winners will receive promotion across the GFF networks.
