Inclusive Fashion Award

Supported by Snag

Submission
People find themselves excluded from enjoying fashion for several reasons, including their body size or shape, disability, gender expression, and age. Truly inclusive design encompasses a huge variety of considerations, including:

1. How do we design and manufacture clothes for the full spectrum of body shapes and sizes?

2. How do we make sure as many people as possible see themselves represented in marketing and model shoots?

3. How do we source materials that are suitable for people with sensory issues or allergies?

4. How do we stop people from feeling excluded from products because of the language we use to describe them?

5. What impact can colour have on a person’s relationship with their clothing?

6. How can we design for people who are sensitive to the sensory experience of wearing clothing?

The Inclusive Fashion Award is open to students from GFF member university courses who are working to make fashion more inclusive.

Criteria

  • Your submission should demonstrate how your project or product makes fashion more inclusive for at least one group of people. Explain the type of exclusion you’re trying to address, who it impacts, and what your idea for solving it is.

The supporting statement should explain the nominated graduate’s entry from concept to realisation, including images demonstrating that it meets all the criteria as detailed above. An initial digital submission of no more than 15 pages is required for the nomination shortlisting. The full physical body of work and/or garments will be displayed for the final judging session. The nomination can be a maximum of 10 MB, illustrating the final project and a supporting statement.
