There were several recurring themes amongst the graduate collections that were shown at the Liverpool John Moores show. Strong political messages were put across our SmartFocus catwalk as Lauren Black’s menswear collection closed with a ‘Black Lives Matter’ plaque and one of Loren King’s anarchic tartan garments was strewn with Union Jack and EU flags.
There were clear coastal influences in Lyndsey Gillet and Charlotte McCann’s womenswear collections. Gillet created holographic jelly-fish inspired pieces which incorporated pastel-coloured crochet, layered with holographic plastic. McCann designed chunky textured fisherman knits with waterproof overalls in bright yellow, green and orange.
The menswear collections from Liverpool were particularly striking, with Luke McGeagh marrying military with florals and graduate Jack Shelbourne teaming silver lamé hotpants with embellished fur coats and caps.
