At the GFW Live! space, Tu by Sainsbury's hosted a conversation with designer Henry Holland from House of Holland. Discussing his history, process as a designer and current work, Henry educated a room full of aspiring designers on the ups and downs of working in such a fast-paced industry.
The House of Holland collection started and took off 10 years ago but when asked how the journey has been Henry’s response was short and sweet, “I’ve been working my ass off for 10 years” - a familiar feeling for current graduates over the past few years. With 10 years of non-stop late nights, excitement, and up and down points in his career, Henry Holland’s key advice for young creatives is to “try and make your work describe you in your purest form”.
As a judge for this year’s Tu at Sainsbury’s Womenswear Scholarship, Henry is extremely thankful for Graduate Fashion Week for providing opportunities like this. “I just think it’s such an amazing and integral part of the process from the transition from education to employment, that so many other industries don't get this platform.”
