Brighton University’s Fashion courses are known for their excellent and imaginative design philosophy, developing graduates into exciting and energetic young designers. With a colossal 24 graduates showing at this year’s Brighton graduate catwalk, the audience knew they were going to be in for a good show.
Opening the show was Felicity Tong, portraying a Pam Hogg-esque collection of sheer fishnet catsuits with with strategically shaped star shaped ruffles. Flecks of metallic were paired with black, teal and navy, a dark palette that continued through the following few designers in an array of fur outerwear, macs and tulle asymmetric tops.
A conscious clashing of colours was also apparent throughout the show with Ellie Cordwell coupling a bold yellow with stone for her Missoni-style weaved tops. Other collections included acid lime slices on muted geometric cut-outs and cobalt blue oversized jumpers paired with slim black trousers.
Meticulous pattern cutting was portrayed throughout Brighton’s graduate show with lightweight denim dresses from Jasmine Gandey, origami shoulders emblazoned with elongated polka dots from Tai-Chieh Wen and beautifully constructed bell sleeves from Katherine Harris. Lace, applique and fur all featured during the show, displaying Brighton’s excellence using a variety of fabrics.
