Located in the heart of Rome, the Accademia Costume & Moda for over 50 years has homed a number of students for both undergraduate, and master courses of many subjects. Combining history, theory, and craftsmanship into their studies, Accademia Costume & Moda prepares their students for the future world that they go into, whether fashion or costume design, media and marketing, or accessory design. The unique curriculum taught at this university means that fashion design and costume design are a part of the same path. Design research methods and experimentation is a key factor for developing designers, where the education towards different approach methods can be crucial and beneficial towards a designers career.
Accademia Costume & Moda holds a place in The Business of Fashion’s “2016 Top Global Fashion Schools” for their driven, intense, and profitable courses. The undergraduate courses range from Costume & Fashion, Fashion Editor (Style & Communication), and Media Design and Multimedia Arts. Alongside the undergraduate degrees, there are many Master's degrees you can further enroll in, specialising in specific studies. With Master's degrees ranging from leatherwear, shoes, and eyewear, to fashion jewelry and costume design for opera and ballet, there is a program out there for any designer.
Working in partnership with Modateca Deanna, Accademia Costume & Moda hold their Master’s degree in Creative Knitwear in which students are encouraged to experiment within their knitwear, and the different processes that are used in their technical development. This course is the perfect way to further yourself as a designer, whether that means identifying your personal knitwear styles and brand identity, or exploring new forms of design approaches and methods that can be applied to personal work.
After the year long Masters course, students are encouraged to pursue professional careers in subjects ranging from product development, trend research, and designing and promoting personal brands. The Accademia Costume & Moda not only homes undergraduate and masters courses, but they also offer a selection of vocational, intensive, and summer short courses for those interested. Previous alumni can be found working for brands like Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Fendi, and Dolce & Gabbana to name a few.
