About me _____
Fashion design and technology graduate specialising in sportswear.
Tom Jacopo Burr is a Technical Sportswear designer and pattern cutter. Through elevated concepts, fabrication and finish, he looks to rethink where sportswear lies in the fashion landscape. Exploring themes from modernist movements and applying them to the structure of Sportswear allows him to create refined takes on classic silhouettes.
While at university and on placement I've developed a range of digital and manual techniques to create a modern working practice that I'm always looking to evolve. Experimentation underpins a lot of my work and being able to work and understand garments in different ways allows me to do this. Whether it be digital garment development, fabric manipulation or creative pattern cutting; I'm always looking at functional garments in a different light. Through rethinking function and creating juxtapositions I attempt to make recognizable yet unorthodox clothing.

Concrete Sponges: a reflection of the contemporary city
Concrete Sponges explores the lived-in Brutalism of 1970s public housing. Seeing how bold, imposing architecture looks once people have inhabited it for decades creates a striking contrast. The structure remains but small inflections of humanity populate every corner. Taking this idea and applying it to the structure of classic Sportswear was the starting point to create a wearable “contemporary city” that mixed function with decoration.
Creating this juxtaposition from scratch led to a rethinking of classic garments altogether. The Situationalist movement rethought the structure of cities by creating routes that “constructed situations” for people to experience the city to its fullest. These concepts informed the design language throughout the collection; ensuring garments visually flow from function to function and take on less orthodox forms.
