About me _____
Hi, I'm Kiera, a fashion design student from Sheffield Hallam University.
Kiera Stephenson is a fashion designer who specialises in womenswear. Her research creates an insight into the bad side of mental health, looking at manic depression and psychosis, creating content that reflets this through psychedelic prints. Whilst studying her degree, Kiera also won a competition designing merchandise for BMW World Superbike Team.
After studying Fashion design for three years, I have realised that the mental health isnt talked about as much as is should be. From this, I looked at mental health and how people actually feel, how people can go through day-today life dealing with things like manic depression, bipolar disorder and many other mental health issues and nobody notice. From this I managed to create a collection that reflects vulnerability and being exposed through mesh fabrics, as well as the feeling of comfort through oversized puffer jackets.

My inspiration started when I started looking into mental health disoders.
Mental health is such a large thing in everyone’s lives and a thing that should be talked about more. People talk about positive mental health but not the negative sides of it. I think people are worried about being judged and treated differently when it comes to mental health, however this is a stigma that needs to be squashed.
From looking into mental health disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia I wanted to show how people actually felt. Looking in to bipolar and how it can make people hallucinate and think illogically. The prints I’ve created throughout my work reflect this looking at different colour ways coupled together and overlapped making the viewer become lost in the prints.
