As a fully-fledged maximalist, I aim to juxtapose the idea of traditional English heritage with rebellious modernism.
I am very proud of my British heritage and I pull that into my designs a lot, but I don’t like to confine that into a preconceived idea of what British fashion look and feels like, which I find a very fascinating concept and is keeping me inspired at the moment.
My creative goal is to always push a look to the point where its vibrancy is almost migraine inducing, my work definitely sits just before the point of being too much, which is perfect as I completely obsessed with the 1970s and 80s and I take a lot of inspiration from these eras. As a tactile designer I always start with the fabrics, building up a collection a contrasting ideas and textures, I did my dissertation on the psychology of colours and textures and I have found I get the best from myself working in a 3D form from the off.

The eccentricities of my family home blended with the artworks of Gilbert and George.
Inspired by the eccentricities of my family and home, I wanted to create a contemporary full-blown colourful collection that juxtaposes the idea of refined heritage and exuberant modernism. To create semi-abstract imagery, I manipulated my own personal family photographs into saturated ‘pop-art’ designs, drawing inspiration from the artists Gilbert and George. In contrast I added another angle from my research and blended my patterns with traditional deadstock Harris Tweed and accents of neon brights, redefining the usual conventional uses of these fabrics.
A conversation with my mum about a lack of stylish, colourful and high-quality fashion for women over 50 inspired my target audience, I wanted to create a maximalist collection for women who want vibrant, exciting and sophisticated fashion who have a desire to be seen and heard.
