About me _____
I'm Kena Wanjiru Kuria, a final year Fashion Marketing student, originally from Nairobi, Kenya. Studying at the University of Leeds has given me an amazing opportunity to explore what aspects of fashion and marketing i'm interested in. I have developed a strong interest in campaign planning as well as inclusive marketing within the fashion and beauty industry.
For my final year project, I created The Hair Project (THP) - a hair care brand which provides personalised tutorials and information on different aspects of hair care and maintenance. The app services are mainly targeted towards women of colour but is inclusive for all women. The personalisation is achieved through an extensive digital assessment and hair analysis done by each individual.

My inspiration is My story.
The hair texture gap - where Afro-hair textures, traditions and styles are underrepresented and misunderstood; where resources are not equally available for these individuals in comparison to their caucasian counterparts; where afro-textured hair is seen as 'unprofessional'. This gap is evident on digital platforms and in person, where there is a hair resource disparity for women with afro-textured hair.
This is what led me to create this project which addresses the resource gap in hair care and maintenance for afro-textured hair. THP aims at empowering women to wear their natural hair and embrace each curl and coil through providing resources which educates them on hair care and maintenance. I aim to represent afro-textured hair in a positive way, where its appreciated, valued and included in fashion and beauty spaces.
