UWE graduates - shaping fashion’s future

The Fashion programmes at UWE are underpinned by creativity and ambition. They have been designed and structured to facilitate individual approaches to the breadth of the subject, and to enable innovative professional development.

Students are encouraged to explore Fashion from a multitude of creative, critical and practical perspectives – and to see the subject as the site of endless possibility, which they are given the skills and understanding to explore with confidence.

UWE Fashion Textiles

Fashion Textiles at UWE is an agile and progressive programme that enables Students to explore the ever-changing breadth of opportunities available within the Fashion Textile industries – from Textile Print, Knit and Fashion Design through to Futures thinking and alternative modes of Fashion production. Students have the opportunity to develop work for one of 3 creative pathways – Fashion design, Textile design or Fashion Textile Futures.

Through a core curriculum of Studio and Industry briefs, we encourage our Students to take a thoughtful approach to the subject; exploring and reflecting on the role and impact of Fashion within social, cultural and environmental contexts. We challenge Students to rethink existing systems in the Fashion Industry and give them the opportunity to explore speculative design methodologies in the development of their work.

Live Briefs delivered in Partnerships with Industry form part of the core curricula for all Students at every level, and all Students are given the opportunity to undertake a year in Industry at the end of Level 6.

Students work in top-spec Studios with their own designated spaces. Studio teaching is underpinned by rigorous approaches to Drawing and Visual Communication; and Students acquire an in-depth knowledge of Pattern Cutting and Materials.

The programme is 3yrs full-time, 4 yrs including a year in Industry.

UWE Fashion Textiles is a member of the British Fashion Council Colleges Council and the Association of Fashion Textile Courses (FTC)
