With 65 years of experience under our belt,Fashion at Northumbria is internationally recognised for innovative and hands-on ‘industry-ready’ graduates. The School of Design was ranked 11th nationwide according to the Guardian University Guide 2022, and Art and Design at Northumbria is ranked 4th in the UK for research power.
We have unique collaborative relationships, including Mulberry, Dunhill, Joseph, Urban Outfitters, All Saints and Old Navy. Our alumni populate world-renowned design studios and brands including Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Coach, Simone Rocha, Dries Van Noten, Paul Smith, Belstaff, Burberry, ASOS, River Island, H&M. Our inspirational lecturers and researchers work with industrially qualified technicians, pattern cutters and digital experts within a learning community that encourages practice, discussion and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
BA (Hons) Fashion
Fashion students challenge the conventions of contemporary fashion creating their own design philosophies, creative identities, and ideas for a responsible fashion future that are aligned to their professional ambitions. They explore and encapsulate the moving body through pattern cutting, print and knit, and design and craft meaningful, authentic fashion that is grounded in research and design thinking, informed by our programme’s heritage of craftsmanship and reputation for industry relevant design.
BA (Hons) Fashion Design & Marketing
With a strong foundation of fashion design and construction skills, Fashion Design and Marketing students are challenged to discover emerging trends and develop fashion products through design and making, delivering to future customers through creative marketing strategies. Thought-provoking enterprise solutions are promoted through branding, graphics and photography and justified through an extensive research report and marketing plan.
BA (Hons) Fashion Communication
Fashion Communication students explore the communication of fashion through the written word, images and experiences, investigating the visual, intellectual and cultural demands of an ever-changing society and dynamic fashion and media audience. They imagine and create new spaces and formats in which to experience Fashion, through experimental narrative and vision.
